Wompoo Eco Retreat is a peaceful and private escape set on 2.5 rainforest hectares elevated on a hillside with breathtaking views over Thornton Peak, Cape Tribulation and the Coral Sea. The accommodation is designed to capture the cool tropical sea breezes.
Wompoo is ideally located close to the protected beach, Cow Bay beach, as well as numerous fresh waterholes, creeks, mangroves and rainforest boardwalks. It is also convenient location to Cape Tribulation and the Daintree River. The property features two bungalows, both of which are private and independent, and share similar design features and guest amenities.
Rammed earth was used in the construction of the bungalows to optimise a cool interior and to tailor expansive Daintree Range views from the comfort of the guest bedroom and bathroom. Each bungalow has private undercover decking with seating and self-contained cooking facilities.
Plenty of lush rainforest on the property provides quiet nooks as well as open space for enjoying our diverse local wildlife. Guests can enjoy the tranquillity of the meandering rainforest creek as a refreshing welcome retreat into the wild.
Wompoo Eco Retreat's name is inspired by the local presence of the Wompoo Fruit Dove, a beautiful dove with an amazing purple breast, green, yellow and white markings. This bird has a very unusual call, and listening to the Wompoo is like hearing to a human conversation, but muted and distant.
Enjoy a laidback rainforest escape with panoramic views over the Daintree range. Featuring an inviting outdoor entertaining area, the Rambutan Bungalow also provides guests with a tranquil outdoor bath area surrounded by mother nature.
Mangosteen Bungalow is elevated to capture a truly unique and immersive view of the mountain ranges. Guests enjoy a truly immersive rainforest experience with al fresco cooking and entertaining facilities, a peaceful sitting area, as well as a private outdoor bath.
Wompoo Eco Retreat is ideally situated to provide guests with easy access to both remote beaches and rainforest sections of the Daintree. Boardwalks, beach walks, interpretive centres, guided walks, river cruises and reef trips are all a stones throw away.
