Wompoo Eco Retreat is a peaceful and private escape set on 2.5 rainforest hectares elevated on a hillside with breathtaking views over Thornton Peak, Cape Tribulation and the Coral Sea.  The accommodation is designed to capture the cool tropical sea breezes.

Wompoo is ideally located close to the protected beach, Cow Bay beach, as well as numerous fresh waterholes, creeks, mangroves and rainforest boardwalks. It is also convenient location to Cape Tribulation and the Daintree River. The property features two bungalows, both of which are private and independent, and share similar design features and guest amenities.

Rammed earth was used in the construction of the bungalows to optimise a cool interior and to tailor expansive Daintree Range views from the comfort of the guest bedroom and bathroom.  Each bungalow has private undercover decking with seating and self-contained cooking facilities.

Plenty of lush rainforest on the property provides quiet nooks as well as open space for enjoying our diverse local wildlife. Guests can enjoy the tranquillity of the meandering rainforest creek as a refreshing welcome retreat into the wild.

Wompoo Eco Retreat's name is inspired by the local presence of  the Wompoo Fruit Dove, a beautiful dove with an amazing purple breast, green, yellow and white markings.  This bird has a very unusual call, and listening to the Wompoo is like hearing to a human conversation, but muted and distant.

Rambutan Bungalow

Enjoy a laidback rainforest escape with panoramic views over the Daintree range. Featuring an inviting outdoor entertaining area, the Rambutan Bungalow also provides guests with a tranquil outdoor bath area surrounded by mother nature.

Mangosteen Bungalow

Mangosteen Bungalow is elevated to capture a truly unique and immersive view of the mountain ranges. Guests enjoy a truly immersive rainforest experience with al fresco cooking and entertaining facilities, a peaceful sitting area, as well as a private outdoor bath.

The Daintree

Wompoo Eco Retreat is ideally situated to provide guests with easy access to both remote beaches and rainforest sections of the Daintree.  Boardwalks, beach walks, interpretive centres, guided walks, river cruises and reef trips are all a stones throw away.

We loved Wompoo Retreat! We stayed in the Rambutan cabin and absolutely adored it. Beautiful views and lots of privacy. We especially enjoyed the fresh fruit and handmade soap that Pete and Jill provided us, the outdoor bathtub, and watching the rainbow bee eaters catch their breakfast while we ate ours. Pete and Jill were amazing hosts, providing lots of local knowledge and also booking things for us. Wompoo Retreat is the perfect place to rest and recharge and enjoy all that the Daintree has to offer.

This airbnb really felt like a retreat! Situated in the heart of the daintree with spectacular views overlooking the forest it was the ultimate way to relax and unwind! We stayed in a stylishly decorated self sufficient building on the grounds of the main house with our own private cooking area, large sleeping area, bathroom and amazing outside bath, all completely secluded from the main house and the other rental accommodation which was on the property. It was the special touches that really made it for us - home made museli, local biodynamic dairy product, and a selection of locally produced teas and coffee! Our host, Peter, met us on arrival and offered us excellent advice on exploring the Daintree, and made us aware that he was nearby should we need anything but we were left to our own devices if we wished. Staying at this Eco Retreat really made our trip to the Daintree special and I would recommend it to anyone looking to relax and detach from the outside world in what is honestly one of the most scenic places in Australia!
